In case you missed it last week, here’s MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow denouncing Congressional toying with the autonomy of the District the best way she knows how: demonstrating how to make the District’s newly-named native cocktail, of course.

Mayor Vince Gray, Councilmember Jack Evans (D-Ward 2) and D.C. mixologist extraordinaire Derek Brown all got lots of love during the segment. In her demonstration, Maddow chose with the rye variant on the beverage — which, of course, can be made with pretty much any kind of gin or whiskey — and delivered herself a very strong pour, to which we lend our full-throated approval. After all, if you live here, the only way to truly come to terms with Congress’ total control over our pursestrings is to be drunk most of the time.
