A violent Halloween night in the District was not limited to the shooting of at least six people around the city, as a large brawl outside and inside the Foggy Bottom Metro station involved pepper spray being dispensed and led police to draw weapons.

According to reports, a group of “several dozen” teenagers began fighting outside the station around 10 p.m. After the brawl spilled down the escalators and inside the station, Metro Transit Police and MPD responded to the scene. The Huffington Post reports on what happened next:

More than a dozen Metropolitan Police Department officers were dispatched to break up the fighting, which an officer described as “four little fights, which we kept from becoming one big fight.”

At 11:15 p.m., a newly arrived group of officers armed with semi-automatic weapons entered the Foggy Bottom station.

“Oh shit,” said a young man who spotted the guns. “Oh shit is right,” an officer told him, before disappearing into the only working escalator well.

No arrests were made, though many of the teens were detained in handcuffs for several hours before being released and escorted home by police.
