Due to the recent raids on four head shops two weeks ago, it appears that the Chinatown location of Capitol Hemp may close for good.

Capitol Hemp’s two locations — the other is in Adams Morgan — were simultaneously raided by police on October 7; seven arrests were made for minor drug possession and drug paraphernalia charges. According to Capitol Hemp’s owners, some $300,000 in water pipes and other smoking implements were seized.

Unless that merchandise is returned soon, the Chinatown location, which is currently closed, may shutter its doors permanently. While the flagship Adams Morgan location sells hemp products along with tobacco, the Chinatown store focused mostly on tobacco sales.

While police officials have so far refused to comment on the raids and investigation into the stores, D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said on WTOP last week that police had received “numerous complaints from the community” about the shops, which included Shiva and the B&K News Stand in Adams Morgan.
