At his press briefing this morning, D.C. Council Chair Phil Mendelson said that the council would vote on legislation this week that would allow the city to fly a specially designed D.C. flag bearing the message “Taxation Without Representation” on Flag Day every year.
The bill was originally introduced last year, and was a follow-up to a 2002 attempt by some activists and councilmembers to permanently redesign the city’s flag to bear the same message that’s on D.C. license plates. That bill faced opposition over cost and concerns with altering the flag, which is based on George Washington’s family coat of arms.
