The DC Anti-Violence Collaborative, a coming together of several Lesbian, Gay, Transgender and Bisexual advocacy groups, launched this week with the goal of “ending cycles of violence and oppression affecting LGBTQH people in the District of Columbia.”
The collaborative is made up of Casa Ruby, the D.C. Trans Coalition, Gays and Lesbians Opposing Violence (GLOV), HIPS and the Rainbow Response Coalition. In a press release about the launch, Casa Ruby founder Ruby Corado said the collaborative “will allow us to start coordinating vital services for survivors of violence in our communities.” Hassan Naveed of GLOV added that DCAVC “will help us create an inclusive advocacy agenda in a safe space for all intersections of the LGBTQH communities. It’s time for us tighten coordination in our advocacy efforts and make sure we are providing representation for everyone.”
According to the release, DCAVC will meet monthly and will hold two town halls this fall. The group will also launch an online “tool to report incidents of anti-LGBTQH violence” soon.
DCAVC formally launched Wednesday in Columbia Heights.
