Mayor Vince Gray’s veto of the living wage bill, which he called “woefully inadequate and flawed,” all but ensures that it is dead in its current form.
The D.C. Council will have an opportunity to override the veto next week, but there are probably not enough votes (nine are needed) to do so. Because of this, Wal-Mart says its plans for all six stores in D.C. are back on. The company threatened to cancel plans for three stores, including two in Ward 7, after the bill based this spring.
