A teenage male was killed and a juvenile girl was shot in the Congress Heights neighborhood yesterday evening.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, officers from the Seventh District responded to sounds of gunshots to the 3100 block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue SE at approximately 8:27 p.m. There, they found an unconscious male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and a juvenile girl who had been shot in the wrist. Emergency Medical Services personnel declared the male dead on the scene.

Police identified the decedent as 17-year-old Philip Jones.

The Post reports that, following the incident, “a crowd gathered at the scene, where they chanted in unison and appeared to confront police officers, in video recorded by NBC 4.”

Police are currently searching for a suspect, described as a “17-to-18 year-old black man wearing black pants, jacket and hat.” The MPD is offering a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information leading to an arrest and conviction.
