Brandon Todd won a decisive victory in Ward 4 last night, beating his nearest opponent by more than 20 percentage points. In Ward 8, things were much less clear.

LaRuby May topped the crowded field, but she is holding on to a slim, 152-vote lead over Trayon White. Only 6,351, or 12 percent, of the ward’s 51,954 registered voters cast a ballot. With absentee and provisional ballots still left to count, the race was too close to call Tuesday night.

Marion C. Barry, the son of the late mayor, finished a distant sixth, with a mere 7 percent of the vote. He plans to run again when the seat comes up for re-election in a year and a half. “My campaign for my father’s seat in Ward 8 begins tomorrow,” he said in a statement.

In Ward 4, Todd, a former constituent services director for then-Council member Muriel Bowser, campaigned on his close ties to the mayor and promised to continue her legacy. Renee Bowser (no relation to the mayor) came in second with 22 percent of the vote, while Leon Andrews picked up 15 percent. Dwayne Toliver, who was endorsed by former Mayor Vincent Gray, came in fourth with 12 percent. About 10,000 people voted in Ward 4, for a turnout of 17 percent.
