When the door to one sweet shop closes, another one opens. At least, that’s the way it really always ought to go. Although many were bummed that BakeHouse closed down their retail operations at 14th and T streets recently, the consolation prize is pretty sweet: Ice Cream Jubilee.
The second shop from the whimsical mind of owner Victoria Lai (the first opened in Yards Park two years ago) will continue scooping up eclectic flavors like Thai Iced Tea, Banana Bourbon Caramel, and, one of our favorites, Marionberry.
“Each flavor tells a story and follows an arc,” Lai told DCist last year. “It becomes a game you play with your taste buds.” Lai illustrates the theory with the seasonal mango habanero flavor, which starts sweet and creamy like a mango lassi then turns devilishly spicy with a kick of peppered syrup.
BakeHouse, meanwhile, will keep their wholesale operations based out of the facility, and you can still find their confections at Pleasant Pops, Colony Club, Tynan Coffee & Tea, Cafe Aficionado, and Qualia.
Ice Cream Jubilee will open at 1407 T Street NW in November
