The D.C. City Council has endorsed current Ward 8 Councilmember Sandy Allen over former Mayor Marion Barry, who is seeking to oust Allen from her Anacostia seat in the upcoming Democratic primary. The Post reports that Council Chairman Linda Cropp says that it isn’t time to “go back to the future.”
Barry says that the council has “no influence” in Ward 8 and doesn’t need its endorsement to recapture his old ward seat.
DCist has always enjoyed Barry’s more colorful quotes over the years. One of the best: “If you take out the killings, Washington actually has a very very low crime rate.”
