DC United soccer phenom Freddy Adu was reportedly present at several University of Maryland keg parties in September, reports the Diamondback. At 15, Adu is the youngest individual to play for a professional American sports team in 100 years-and three years younger than most college freshman. As is typical for parties in College Park, one of the parties was quickly broken up by the police. Quick minded reveler Rob Fitzgerald

usher[ed] Adu to safety and helped the two of them avoid an underage drinking citation.

“The cops came and we were like, ‘Get Freddy Adu out of here,’ and we hopped the fence with him,” he said.

DC United officials had no comment, though Major League Soccer director of communications Trey Fitzgerald stated “Freddy always handles himself as a fine, upstanding young man, so we aren’t overly concerned with any impropriety.”

Though it certainly isn’t shocking to run into teenagers at the average College Park kegger (DCist remembers seeing a party organizer’s 12-year old brother performing keg stands on Knox Road, once upon a time), what is shocking is the treatment Adu received at the parties:

Standing in line for a beer at the keg at what was reported to be a women’s lacrosse party on Dickinson Avenue earlier this month, the [Fitzgerald] was surprised not only to see Adu, but to be pushed aside as Adu’s cup was rushed ahead of his. “I was at the keg and someone was like, this is Freddy Adu’s cup, get out of the way,” said Fitzgerald, a freshman letters and sciences major.

Its been a while since we’ve been to the raucous early September parties at College Park, but we distinctly remember that according to keg line etiquette, even the most famous had to wait to fill their red plastic cups.
