>> DC United scored three goals in a seven minute span to vanquish Kansas City and bring the MLS Cup back to D.C. for the first time since 1999. Former University of Virginia star Alecko Eskandarian scored two of United’s goals, while Earnie Stewart added another. United has been in the MLS Championship game five times in 9 years with their only loss coming to Chicago in 1998, a team which included current United head coach Peter Nowak. To celebrate, the team is holding a victory rally tonight at RFK Stadium. Gates open at 5:30 PM and the rally begins at 6:30. Admission is free.
>> Despite a close first half, George Washington University fell victim to late run and lost to the second ranked Demon Deacons of Wake Forest last night. After to pulling to within five points in the second half, GW fell victim to a 10-2 Wake Forest run that put the game out of reach. Pre-season All American Chris Paul had 25 points and 6 assists to lead the Deacs.
>> Joe Gibbs finally saw the light yesterday and named Patrick Ramsey as the starter for next Sunday’s game at Philadelphia. Given the ‘Skins 3-6 record, Ramsey figures to finish the season while the coaching staff evaluates Ramsey’s “ability to run the offense.”
