Now Official, Nationals: Ladies and gentlemen, we have a baseball team name: the Washington Nationals. While we’ve already heard that the former Montral Expos were going to be renamed the Nationals, the name and logos are going to be officially unveiled at a Union Station ceremony today. And the logos aren’t going to be like this old Senators logo at right.

The Post got an advanced look at the logos:

There are several versions of the logo, according to a preview of the team marks that were viewed by The Post. All the marks — variations of the logos that will appear on the team’s uniforms, caps and other merchandise — will be done in the team colors of red, white and blue.

But the main logo is the word “Washington” in a ribbon-form that sits on top of a rectangular “Nationals.” There is also a baseball diamond ringed with stars.

We’d still like to note that www.washingtonnationals.com goes to an anti-Orioles site.

So What’s Peter Angelos Up To?: In a move that could further complicate the relationship between Baltimore Orioles owner Peter Angelos and the Washington area, it appears that the baseball team owner is setting his sights on the Rosecroft racetrack south of the city in Prince George’s County for slots. While the Post seems to indicate there is a lot of opposition to Angelos’ plan, much of that seems tied to the future of the proposed National Harbor development near Oxon Hill, which would bring a giant convention, retail and hotel complex to the Potomac River shoreline. Rep. Albert Wynn tells the Post “[g]iven the huge investment that’s being made by National Harbor in the county, I cannot imagine any elected officials supporting a scenario in which National Harbor’s interests are undermined.”

Get Ready to Travel:
If you are traveling for Thanksgiving this week, you will not be alone. The AP, via WTOP, reports that the state of Maryland will see the numbers of travelers return to pre-Sept. 11, 2001, levels.

When You Thought Metrobus Couldn’t Get Any Worse: Wow, lots of metrobus news. First, a promotion from ING that would provide metrorail riders a free ride to work in December is causing a stir, the Post reports, because it leaves out metrobus riders, opening up wounds on how the poor who must depend on bad bus service are getting ignored by improvements to the public transit system … Then, we were amazed to hear this story recounted in the Post’s Dr. Gridlock regarding trouble on the 42 bus … then the AP, via WTOP, reports that SmarTrip usage on metrobus is up … Switching back to metrorail, the W.Times reports that rail bridges, though they aren’t in any immediate danger of failure, could use some upkeep.
