U Street’s long jazz tradition continues this weekend with the world premiere of the Suite for Human Nature with renowned jazz musician Wynton Marsalis (right), the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, and The Boys Choir of Harlem at the Lincoln Theatre this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. According to an email circulated on the U Street News listserv,
an uplifting satirical fable for the entire family, Suite for Human Nature chronicles the adventures and misadventures of Mother Nature, Father Time, and their offspring. Through its allegorical characters this moving tale of redemption tells the story of the Four Winds coming to the rescue when Mother Nature and Father Time create the world, only to find the troubles of mankind are almost too much to bear.
While tickets to the show are fairly steep ($40 to $75), it sounds like it will be well worth the money. Also, the email says the Washington Performing Arts Society, who commissioned the Suite for Human Nature, is working with local groups to plan some events in the surrounding community connected to the concert, but we don’t have many details other than a sold out young professionals afterparty.
