You’ve got to give them credit to try to make the most of an opportunity. The tourism boards of Washington D.C. and Philadelphia have teamed up to launch movietour.org, a website offering travelers discounts on hotels and travel and an itinerary to encourage people to explore some sites featured in the film National Treasure.

They’ve even listed on their website an Amtrak discount code (“V631”) which they say will get you 50% off a companion’s ticket through March 31 on any regional train. In our experience the discount codes on Amtrak are fairly flexible – we wouldn’t be surprised if it would work for any destination, not just Philadelphia. The website also has information about special lodging packages, and a downloadable itinerary which includes not only the sites featured in the film but also related sites like the massive Scottish Rite Temple. They write:

Unlike Gates, you won’t have federal agents and villains on your trail. On this self-guided tour, you get to call the shots, set your own pace and explore the historic sites that have starring roles in the film.

Make it a long weekend and take advantage of affordable overnight packages in each city and discover the vibrant nightlife, outstanding restaurants and cultural activities that make both Philadelphia and Washington, DC national treasures.
