Juvenile Homicide Up in 2004 in D.C. The D.C. Council will issue a report today which finds that in 2004, all of the victims of juvenile homicide in the District were black and the number of girls killed has reached a three year high of nine. The Council will hear testimony today from a variety of people to examine the issue and start finding solutions.
Race for Mayor Under Way, Undisclosed: Four Democrats are already holding swanky fundraisers to test the waters for a mayoral campaign — but due to a quirk in D.C. law until their candidacies are official they can raise and spend money behind a shroud of secrecy. The Post reports “Government watchdog groups say they have never seen so much unregulated cash pouring into city politics,” profiling the efforts of Adrian M. Fenty (D-Ward 4), former D.C. Democratic Party official A. Scott Bolden, attorney Michael A. Brown and council member Vincent B. Orange Sr. (D-Ward 5), all of who have created exploratory committees to consider running for mayor.
Statue Relocated: A statue of Alexander “Boss” Robey Shepherd, who was in charge of the Territory of Columbia from 1871 to 1874 and credited for spearheading modern urban infrastructure in the city, has been re-installed at the Wilson Building after a 26-year hiatus.
