Mayor Williams Eases Fears of Bioterrorism Lab: Mayor Williams told a skeptical D.C. Council a proposed Level 3 bioterrorism lab would have no “significant impact” on its neighborhood, adding “We’re not talking about bringing Area 51 from Nevada.” Council member David Catania has asked that the city explain its plans at a hearing on Feb. 17.

Living Wage Campaign Heats Up At Georgetown: Students at Georgetown kicked off a newly re-organized living wage campaign on their campus with a rally yesterday to follow one on Jan. 28. Activists at that campus have been calling for the university to pay its employees a living wage since March 2003, but recently have organized a broad coalition.

City Museum to Re-open: The D.C. City Museum plans to re-open next year, but without an admission charge. The reopened museum will be home to a new headquarters for the D.C. visitors center, and “could house tenants such as business and downtown improvement organizations.” Backers are seeking a $1 million subsidy per year from city government to support the endeavor.
