The sixth annual Washington D.C. Independent Film Festival (the “Ground Zero of Washington D.C.’s Indie Scene” according to their website) kicks off March 2 at the City Museum. The festival includes a smorgasbord of films including features, documentaries, shorts, and animation by local, national and international filmmakers.
DCIFF’s opening night includes the world premiere of “Aryan Couple ,”a feature-length film by John Daly, the pioneer of independent film financing. (His previous productions include “Platoon,” and “Last Emperor.”) This film will be shown at Avalon Theatre (5612 Connecticut Ave.) – unlike the other festival screenings – with a reception before the show at the Swiss Embassy (2900 Cathedral Ave.). Tickets for film and reception are $25; film only are $15.
Don’t feel obligated to fork over so much for the opening night, though, because the remaining 11 days of the festival include over 116 films to see for less and opportunities to meet the directors. Films are $9 ($7 for students); you can buy tickets online with a $1.50 handling fee, or at the box office at the City Museum.
You can also check out the festival’s blog here to see posters for the films and read more details about their content and crews.
DCist is particularly looking forward to the D.C. filmmaker screenings on March 3 and is intrigued by the thematic categories for other events (“Object of Desire,” “Love in the Middle East,” and more.) We’re also happy to see the films in celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8.
