If we weren’t all going to die from this apparently massive, apocalyptic snowstorm that is going to eat our pets and start the second Ice Age, these are the shows we’d be going to see. Where are your musical destinations this week?

MONDAY:
>> The Finn Brothers, Kiwi nationals of Split Enz and Crowded House fame, take the stage with their classic pop and harmonies at the Birchmere. 7:30 p.m., $29.50.

>> If the snow can’t stop you, take a trip up to Baltimore for I Love You But I’ve Chosen Darkness at the Ottobar. The group, from Austin, plays dark, choppy pop punk. Listen to “When You Go Out.”

WEDNESDAY:
>> This is pretty amazing — De La Soul will be doing a string of dates throughout the United States, accompanied by hip hop symposiums and ticket prices of only $1.20. And it all starts off here in D.C. The symposium will be held Tuesday in the Blackburn Theater of Howard University at 1 p.m., and the show will be Wednesday at the Lincoln Theater on U Street at 8 p.m. (UPDATE: This listing may in fact be incorrect; as you can see in comments, a couple of posters have talked with folks at Lincoln Theater, who say that there is no confirmed show. UPDATE 2.0: Show canceled and/or never in existence in the first place. Damn these false reports. Our apologies.)

THURSDAY:
>> Alejandro Escovedo, he of the gritty voice, jangly guitar and folksy, bluesy tunes, is at the Barns of Wolf Trap this evening. Unfortunately, the show is sold out, but he plays the Rams Head Tavern in Annapolis on Friday, so you can shoot for that performance. Listen to “Rhapsody.”

FRIDAY:
>> The Secret Machines, who kinda sound like electronica mixed with Pink Floyd, are with Autolux at the 9:30 Club. And they’ve got a photoblog. $15.

>> Clem Snide, above, plays quirky music with a melodic twist, and they effortlessly mix everything from jazz to country to pop. With Archer Prewitt and Marbles; Black Cat, $10 in advance, $12 day of. Check out some of their videos here.

SATURDAY:
>> Trippy guitars, fuzzy drone, and waves of poppy sound characterize Ambulance Ltd., who bring their act to the Black Cat this evening. $12.
