Remember Episode 24 of “The Simpsons”? Of course you do. Larry King reading the Bible, George Takei as a Japanese waiter, Homer having 24 hours to live after eating deadly fugu… it was an early classic, hinting toward the future greatness of seasons 3 and 4. Luckily for Homer, the bumbling apprentice chef served him a non-poisonous cut of the fish, which can actually kill in under an hour.

If you’re curious about having your own Homer-esque experience, Kaz Sushi Bistro is offering the unique chance to sample an entire menu of torafugu, the highly poisonous Tiger Blowfish, until the end of March. Kaz is one of the few restaurants in the United States licensed to sell the fish, and interested diners pay a steep $150 for the pleasure of eating a fish that may kill you. And we doubt that the menu at Kaz has directions to the hospital printed on the back.

The fugu dinner at Kaz is five courses and a glass of hireshu, hot sake with fugu fin. Dishes on the menu include grilled fugu sperm and fugu skin with ponzu sauce. Prospective diners are asked to call the restaurant at least two weeks in advance to make reservations for the special meal. More details can be found on in the Kaz Sushi Bistro newsletter, cached here.

Not eager to risk your life eating this deadly delicacy? Kaz is arguably one of the best sushi restaurants in D.C., and you can enjoy Chef Kaz’s four course omakase (literally, Chef’s choice) menu for $45 a person. But would that be as fun as trying a fish so poisonous it has been featured on episodes of Columbo and CSI NY? We leave that up to you.
