We know Maryland fans may not agree with us right now, but is there a better time of year for sports fans than March? That’s a rhetorical question because the answer is a resounding no. Football is in it’s free agent signing period, baseball is down South preparing for opening day, teams in the NBA start jockeying for playoff position and college basketball starts preening for the camera as the spotlight shines upon it.
DC is currently enjoying it’s own personal basketball renaissance, what with this year’s much improved Wizards (don’t let their March malaise fool you, start saving up for those playoff tickets) along with the ACC tournament coming to the nation’s capitol for the first time in 20 years.
Unfortunately having “home court advantage” did little for the Maryland Terrapins. Yet another loss to Clemson in the opening round severly hurt their already fading hopes for an invite to the Big Dance. But fear not you turtles, because as of press time, Clemson was up 12 on heavily favored UNC, letting you hold your heads a bit higher.
In other action yesterday Virginia suprised Miami, which sets them up for Duke tonight at 9 PM. NC State defeated Florida State setting up a rematch with Wake Forest who will be without Chris Paul. Georgia Tech also faces Virginia Tech in the afternoon game.
If you need the action coming to you hot and heavy, you can always check out the ESPN scoreboard or Dan Steinberg’s ACC Tourney blog.
And don’t fret, we’ll have the games on at the Happy Hour tonight.
