They’re Coming!: Tourists, a million strong, will be coming into the city for the National Cherry Blossom Festival. And according to the Post, the first of the visitors are starting to make their way into the capital as the Tidal Basin’s cherry blossoms enter the next stage of the budding process. The cherry blossom gurus have predicted that the blossoms will begin to come out in full force next week and will be at full peak the first week of April.
Tomorrow’s opening ceremony at the Mandarin Oriental hotel is sold out. For more information check out the official festival website or the Post’s online guide. As a side note, if you want to avoid the tourists downtown and see the cherry blossoms, we suggest you be a tourist yourself and drive to Bethesda’s Kenwoood neighborhood. Next weekend should see traffic backups on River Road with lines of cars trying to get in to see the neighborhood’s blooms.
