Serial Arsonist Caught: Authorities say that the serial arsonist who has plagued parts of the District, Virginia and Maryland has been caught. Read about this big story in the Post, W.Times and the Examiner. According to investigators, a Marine dress cap and a pair of Marine dress trousers left behind at a fire in Arlington yielded DNA that links Thomas Sweatt of Southeast D.C. to the fires. The suspect, the Post reports, “seemed to live an utterly commonplace life that was spent between his job and the plain brick apartment building he shared with his sister.”

D.C. Schools to Freeze New Hires: The W.Times reports that the D.C. public schools will stop hiring new teachers in favor of repositioning other public schools employees laid off because an accounting snafu. From the W.Times:

For the second year in a row, the system is faced with cutting hundreds of jobs because an accounting problem in which scheduled pay raises were not factored into budgets.
