Anacostia Islands Becoming Preserves: Ownership of the Kingman and Heritage Islands in the Anacostia River has been transferred to D.C. city government as part of a plan to convert them into a 45-acre park, WTOP radio and the Post reports. The preserve will contain walking trails and a $9 million visitors center when it is completed.
Snipers to Be Prosecuted in Maryland: John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo will be tried for the 2002 sniper attacks in Montgomery County, the Post reports. The two were already convicted in Virginia – Malvo to life in prison and Muhammad to death – but Virginia governor Mark Warner decided to transfer them to Montgomery county for prosecution for the 6 deaths they caused there.
