Dude, Where’s My Car? While car theft isn’t a laughing matter, we chuckled for a very brief moment when we heard that Police Chief Charles Ramsey’s car was stolen over the weekend. The AP, via WTOP, reports that the chief’s 1999 Ford Crown Victoria was stolen after being parked near his house by a police officer when Ramsey was out of town. On Ramsey’s way to church Sunday morning, the car was nowhere to be found.
In case anyone sees a car with a matching description with “a riot helmet and some clothing” inside, you’re asked to call the Metropolitan Police. Perhaps Ramsey should seek advice from Murphy Brown regarding starting a neighborhood watch program.
Renovations May Shutter Museum of American History: Tourists wanting to see Dorothy’s ruby slippers and other American treasures may be sorely disappointed in years to come as the Smithsonian’s Museum of American History may have to partially or completely close for major renovations, the Post reports. And this isn’t some simple spit-and-shine job, the 40-year-old museum will see a major overhaul, with a dramatic architectural makeover.
From the Post:
[Museum Director Brent] Glass has high expectations. He says he’s intrigued by what the Museum of Modern Art in Manhattan accomplished with its renovations (which required closing MoMA and moving its exhibits, in the meantime, to a satellite location in Queens).
Does that mean that the museum could temporarily relocate to Arlington or some other place? Let the speculation begin.
Bullock Trial Eye Openers: We haven’t been following the trial of former teachers union official Barbara Bullock very closely, but then this article in the W.Times gives us a peek into the ridiculousness of the off-the-wall corruption here. A few highlights:
1.) How’d Marion Barry (when he was mayor) find his way into this?
Mr. Barry wanted ex-treasurer James O. Baxter II “to be a director full time and [Mr. Barry said] it wouldn’t be a conflict of interest if [Mr. Baxter] remained at the WTU to maintain accounts and sign checks.”
2.) The Washington Mystics?
Bullock previously testified that she, Mr. Baxter and Mrs. Hemphill used the union’s American Express card account to buy personal goods, and other things such as tickets to Washington Redskins football and Washington Mystics basketball games.
3.) Then there wasn’t enough room for all the stuff Bullock bought, perhaps she should have taken closet organization tips from Imelda Marcos (seen here in an AP photo) …
The personal expenses also included several annual bills for removing and storing Bullock’s clothing.
“Why did you have to have someone to store your clothes?” Mr. Cooper asked Bullock.
“Because I did not have enough room,” she replied.
