Something weird’s going on, D.C. Yesterday a 38 year-old Catholic nun identified as Sister Liann was kidnapped from behind Our Lady Queen of Peace Convent in Southeast. She was then driven about two miles away and released unharmed. Police are looking for the suspects, a man and a woman, but no one seems to have any hunches as to what the assailants’ motives might have been. As a neighbor interviewed by the Post asked, “Who would abduct a nun — an idiot?”
Braindead Woman Gives Birth: You might remember the sad story of Susan M. Torres from a few months ago, when Terri Schiavo was grabbing national headlines. Mrs. Torres suffered a catastrophic stroke from an undiagnosed brain tumor, but was kept alive in order to give her unborn baby a chance to develop. Well, yesterday Tuesday the baby was born, and so far she seems to be doing well. After the birth Mrs. Torres’ life support was removed, and she passed away. A fund has been established to help defray the Torres family’s medical expenses — you can find more information here.
Amtrak Delays: The rail service experienced delays along the eastern corridor early this morning, thanks to a broken Philadelphia powerline. The situation appears to be returning to normal, but passengers are still being encouraged to call ahead to check their schedule. Amtrak’s phone number is 1-800-USA-RAIL.
Heat Advisory in Effect: It seems like just last week that we were writing about the great weather in store for the D.C. area. Wait — it was last week. Well, times have changed, and the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for today from noon until eight p.m. Here’s the city’s heat plan; its provisions go into effect when the heat index reaches 95.
