And a Mercedes.

Good morning, Washington. It looks like the dreary weather of the last few days has cleared out – today will be partly cloudy with temperatures in the mid 50s with no rain expected through the weekend. Unfortunately the dry weather came just a bit too late for this year’s high heel race which nonetheless went forward last night in wet conditions. There are a few photos of the event already posted to DCist photos.

Hearing Held on Public Schools: Four members of the D.C. Council held a hearing at Roosevelt High School on a proposed $1 billion package for maintenance and modernization of the city’s public schools, the Post reports. The proposal would raise the money through a combination of sales tax increases and delaying a planned income tax reduction. At the hearing teachers from the high school testified about hot and cold temperatures in classrooms and other facilities problems.

D.C. Seizes Property For Stadium: D.C. government has filed papers starting the process of seizing the remaining privately held property on the site of the baseball stadium through invoking eminent domain, WTOP and the Post report.

Residents Oppose New Sludge Facility: Activists with several neighborhood groups in far Northwest neighborhoods are attempting to block a new sludge processing plant the Army Corps of Engineers intends to build near their neighborhood, the Examiner reports. Currently the sediment filtered out of Potomac River water is returned to the river, but under new EPA rules the material would have to be removed, requiring a new facility. Click here to view a map of the area behind Sibley Hospital where the facility would be constructed.
