Without a doubt, the highlight of the Maryland Terrapins’ up and down (Clemson says “Hi”) season last year were the two wins the Terps enjoyed over their hated rivals, the Duke Blue Devils. Their rivalry resumed last night in Durham and the Devils enjoyed the cozy confines of Cameron Indoor Stadium to the tune of a 76-52 walkover. This one was over early (letting everyone tune over to ABC for the new episode of Lost) as Maryland went to the locker room at halftime trailing by 23. “We just did not do anything right,” D.J. Strawberry told the Post. “Everything just went wrong from the jump.” J.J. Redick scored a game high 27 and Shelden Williams messed around and got a triple double (including 10 blocks). Chris McCray was the only Terp to reach double figures, with 12 points. The Terps are now 1-2 in ACC conference play and face a big matchup against Wake Forest on Sunday.
Back at home in D.C., with Pops Mensah-Bonsu and Mike Hall struggling, Danillo Pinnock and Carl Elliot propelled No. 17 George Washington past visiting St. Louis in overtime. Pinnock was everywhere for the Colonials, scoring 7 of his 19 points in the extra session and also blocking a game tying 3-point attempt by the Billekens Danny Brown at the end of regulation. GW rallied from a 9 point deficit in the second half before pulling it out in OT. Next up for the Colonials is a match up with St. Joe’s at home on Saturday.
