Along with lilac and hyacinth, the sweet sweet smell of summer concerts is in the air. Here’s a breakdown of some exciting dates so far.
>> Belle & Sebastian, Broken Social Scene & Ted Leo + Pharmacists, Merriweather, July 8. If you’re interested, the belle tix presale started today. Tickets go on sale en masse this Saturday at 10 a.m., via Ticketmaster or the Merriweather or 9:30 Club box offices.
>> Wolfmother‘s been doing their best to get bloggers buzzing at festivals this spring. It’s our turn to take in the California trio on June 6 at the Black Cat. The Cat’s boasting an all around hip June, with Tilly and The Wall on the 17th, Echo & the Bunnymen on the 26th, We Are Scientists on the 27th, and Jose Gonzales on the 30th. Wow.
>> The Futureheads come to the 9:30 Club with band-of-the-moment Tapes ‘N Tapes on June 28. Or, you can catch the opener as the headliner 20 days prior in Baltimore. The Baltimore show (at a bar called Fletcher’s) also features Cold War Kids, whose song “Hospital Beds” you should go listen to immediately.
CORRECTION: French Kicks are opening for The Futureheads on their DC stop. Pitchfork’s fancy footnoting got the better of me.
>> On June 15, catch Sonic Youth and Be Your Own Pet at 9:30. You can see them on the Gilmore Girls season finale on May 9, or listen to some awesome new tracks on MySpace in the mean time.
>> Calexico, sans Iron & Wine, comes to the 9:30 Club June 26.
Still no love from The Raconteurs, Wilco, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mylo, Radiohead or Sigur Ros, but we can keep our fingers crossed.
