Before we kick off this week’s suggestions, a quick note about Sunday’s show at the Black Cat. The Lovely Feathers were good, Dr Dog was great, and The Spinto Band was freakin phenomenal. What a tremendous bunch of characters those guys are, we haven’t seen head shaking like that since That Thing You Do.
TUESDAY:
>> We’ll be honest — we can’t exactly picture Trent Reznor playing in an amphitheater. But it’s a plan so crazy, it just might work! Get pissed off and head to Nissan Pavilion for Nine Inch Nails, Bauhaus and TV on the Radio. $15 to $45, 7 p.m.
>> Tonight kicks off the Can A Sista Rock A Mic? Festival. In its second year, the B-Girl Manifesto presents a series of events and music throughout this week spotlighting DC talent and “great live non-commercial soul and hip-hop, and some fresh up-and-coming voices too.” The festival kicks off tonight at Club Five with 9 artists for $12. 8:30 p.m. sharp. Full event details for the rest of the week are available on bgirlmanifesto.com.
>> Charleston-via-Boston four piece Slow Runner come to Iota tonight, delightfully poppy rock in tow. $10, 8:30 p.m.
WEDNESDAY
>> It’s nearly impossible to hear the hypnotically dulcent tones of Chan Marshall (pictured) and not get drawn in. That probably explains why Cat Power sold out the 9:30 Club this week. That and the fact that The Greatest is a fantastic album, fresh on the minds of music fans everywhere. Enjoy the pretty songstress and pat yourself on the back for buying tickets early.
>> Swedish rock is kind of like pain killers — simultaneously peaceful and a little creepy. Pop a Dungen pill at the Black Cat, with openers and DCist favorites Nethers. $13, 8:30 p.m.
>> Hipster haven Wonderland Ballroom hosts three guitarists near and dear to my heart — Anthony Pirog, John Lee and Billy Triplett, playing under the title String Bean, Peanut and Pineapple. Silly monikers aside, this will be a great show.
>> The Warehouse Next Door hosts United for Choice, a concert in support of Ogala Sioux Indian tribe in South Dakota, who are attempting to build a Planned Parenthood on Pine Ridge reservation, in order to combat the state’s recently passed ban on abortion. The evening will feature Annatomy, Pash, The Mirror Script and Control Groups D. 8:30 p.m.
