Good Morning, Washington. Looks like it’s going to be a beautiful, if a tad hot, day. Highs should be up around 90, with the humidity and rain we’ve all been hearing about holding off at least until tomorrow.

Initiative for Slots Off Ballot: For those of you who have been waiting for electronic slots to hit D.C., looks like you’ll be waiting a bit longer. WTOP tells us that the PAC that has been working to get machines placed around Martin Luther King Junior Avenue and Good Hope Road in Southeast D.C. has decided to hold off on submitting the 20,000 signatures (the manner in which they have been gathered, though, has been disputed) to place the issue on the ballot in order to collect more signatures, thus holding the issue off the ballot until January 2008: D.C. will be electronic slot-less for at least a few more years.

Georgetown Slaying Suspects Held Without Bond: Updates on the murder of British politician Alan Senitt and the assault of his female companion in Georgetown this past weekend: WJLA notes that Kristopher Piper, 25, is charged with felony murder and attempted sexual assault. Jeffery Rice, 22, Olivia Miles, 26, and a 15-year-old boy also face murder charges. Currently, they are all being held without bond.

MD Governor Advocates Renewable Energy: Fresh on the heels of Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth, WJLA states that Governor Ehrlich thinks that Maryland’s state government should buy ten percent of its electricity from renewable sources like wind and solar power. This would include the State Center office complex in downtown Baltimore and the Maryland Science Center in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor being outfitted with solar panel systems. Considering all the issues Maryland has had with energy and rates, this could be a move in the right direction. Plus, it would make Maryland a national leader in fuel conservation which, of course, is a good example for the other 49 states.

Duke Lacrosse Player Faces Charges in Georgetown Brawl: Collin Finnerty, one of the Duke Lacrosse players that is being charged with assault, now has another unrelated charge: starting a bar brawl last year in Georgetown that left two people injured. In addition to saying that Finnerty started the fight, alleged victims also claim the lacrosse player tossed homophobic remarks at them.

This Day in DCist: We happily welcomed two new members to the Ist family, and talked about scientology.
