Fenty Tells Cropp to Call Him Personally: Add one more item to the list of social situations D.C. mayoral candidate Miss Manners Adrian Fenty feels strongly should not be conducted over email (break-ups and thank-you notes no doubt count among the others). In a series of hilarious emails between the campaign staffs of mayoral frontrunners Linda Cropp and Fenty, Fenty has demanded that Cropp call him personally, on his cell phone, before he will accept her challenge to a one-on-one debate. DCist has learned that Fenty plans to spend their entire debate, should one be scheduled, keeping Cropp in a headlock, forcing her to say things like “I’m in awe of your 10-point lead” and “uncle”.
Metro Board Unlikely to Allow Police to Search Bags: Despite Metro Police’s expressed enthusiasm for beginning a New York City-style random bag search program on Metro passengers, the Examiner reports that the Metro Board largely lacks the will to enact such a program. Board members have not yet debated the issue in public, but sources tell the paper that only one of the six members is in favor of such a program. However after the U.S. Court of Appeals declared New York’s ACLU-embattled policy was in fact constitutional last week, it’s certainly possible we could one day in the future be randomly stopped and searched by police. Let’s just hope we get to keep our hand lotion.
Metrobuses to be Treated Like School Buses: Anyone who drives in this city knows that Metrobus drivers are notorious for never pulling over and parallel enough to bus stops so that cars behind them may pass. Well starting soon, D.C. drivers can be stopped and fined for such cutting around buses and turning near intersections, to the tune of $100, thanks to a new passenger safety law.

This Day on DCist: In 2005 we profiled a local filmmaker interested in D.C. love lives, and in 2004 we dug into the ongoing Washingtonienne coverage.
