Well, spare the road closures that snared Saturday morning traffic by the National Mall, that is. And what they say is true — Adrian Fenty really does run triathlons, and he’s good.

Gandhi to Keep Job: Phew! Natwar Gandhi, the District’s Chief Financial Officer, must be breathing a sigh of relief today. The Post is reporting that among the changes incoming mayor Adrian Fenty might make, Gandhi will remain in his position for another five years. Gandhi has helped steer the District towards calm financial waters, and has many friends in Congress, the institution that would have to agree to a new appointment for the position.

D.C. Police Splurge on Guns: District police bought some 337 guns back from the community over the weekend, writes NBC 4. The buyback program encourages citizens from around the region to sell their guns to the police, offering anywhere from $50 to $100 per gun. This year’s buyback cost police $16,700.

Metro Runs Emergency Drill: Not good. In a drill yesterday morning meant to mimic a bomb attack on a Metro train, emergency officials took two hours to rescue the 120 volunteer victims, a shade more than the 45 minutes they had hoped for, notes the Post. The mock drill took place in the tunnel used by the Orange and Blue lines that runs under the Potomac River.
