FRIDAY:
>> Potty Fest? Not really, but it’s called POONanza. It’s actually a comic variety show named after the host, Larry Poon. A Washington native, Poon grew up in the tough “CrackLand” housing projects in Southeast. Debuting on stage back in 1999, he’s haunted countless area-comedy shows, and will perform POONanza III tonight at Warehouse Theatre. We’re not really sure what the roman numerals signify, but he promises POONification. We’re intrigued. Check out the man’s MySpace. 10:30 p.m., $5 (Erin Zimmer)
SATURDAY:
>> New York indie rock outfit Sam Champion (not to be confused with their namesake GMA weather man and unconfirmed Mike Piazza paramour) take the stage tonight at DC9. Come see what all the NYC MP3 blogs are fawning about. One blogger described their sound as Tom Petty meets Pavement. Count me in. (Kyle Gustafson)
SUNDAY:
>> It’s always a good idea to head down to Black Cat for their semi-annual Rock ‘N’ Shop, a “rock ‘n’ roll garage sale” that features vendors selling everything from vintage clothes to records to jewelry to handcrafted tee shirts. But this year there’s an extra special reason: Local art and craft collective Craft Mutiny and El Jefe Design are teaming up to hold a silent auction to benefit the Callum Robbin Fund 8 to 12:30 p.m.
>> Anyone who grew up in the 1980s has a special relationship with the A Christmas Story. And we’ve noticed that anyone much older than that either hasn’t seen it, or if they have, just doesn’t get it. Of all the warm fuzzy feelings this particular holiday classic brings to mind, I personally will always remember it as the movie that taught me how to correctly pronounce the word “FRAGILE”. At Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse, which seems like a marriage made in heaven, at 5 p.m., part of the Christmas Movie Festival.
