Well, it’s officially one week until the big day, but it seems that law-enforcement’s biggest fan isn’t feeling the holiday spirit. The continuing toasty weather may also make it hard to believe you’ve only got five more days to purchase all the tacky reindeer sweaters you can find. Call us crazy, we’re still crossing our fingers for the tiniest amount of snow by next Monday.

Councilman, Sue Thy Self:
Earlier this year, we made the phrase “Marion Barry’s legal troubles” a custom shortcut in Word and it’s paying off again. The Ward 8 Councilman was pulled over Saturday by U.S. Park Police and taken into custody on suspicion of driving with a suspended license. Barry said it was a mix-up and is now threatening to sue Park Police and the D.C. government over the incident. You’ll remember it was just last month that Barry plead not guilty to a myriad of citations including driving under the influence. If Barry plans to sue every group that’s charged him with a crime in the last twenty years, government agencies may just start ceding property to the former mayor. You heard it here first!

From Charm to Chocolate: The D.C. Council votes today on a deal to bring the NAACP headquarters to the city. The civil rights group is currently based in Baltimore and has asked the District to contribute $3.5 million to help them acquire property in Southeast. The new building, part of the Anacostia Gateway development project, could be open by fall of next year.

Gangs May Lay Down Arms:
Last night, Mayor-Elect Adrian Fenty was witness to a truce between rival gangs Chopper City and Lynch Mob. The groups publicly stated their “beef was over.” We have no idea how effective such a gesture will be, but the organization that brokered the peace hopes the agreement will reduce crime in Anacostia.

This Day in DCist: Last year we said goodbye to Editor-in-Chief Rob Goodspeed and wondered whether to pack our bags and move to Largo.
