As we look back over the wreckage of another spent year this week, we take a moment to honor the kinds of quotes that are the bread and butter of this column. Namely, the odd things seen and heard on mass transit, and the reliable adorability of lost and/or confused tourists. But remember, Karma always comes back around, so every time you have a chuckle at the expense of an exasperated commuter or weary traveler in this space, it’s your responsibility to give pleasant directions to the next such person you see out on the streets. Make it your resolution for the New Year. Because you never know when it might be something that escapes your own lips showing up in this space. We’re always listening!

Happy New Year, Washington.

Quote of the Week

On the red line to Shady Grove:

Man: “Is this Galaxy Chinatown?”
Everyone in car: “It’s Gallery Place/Chinatown.”

After the jump, (barely) unilingual youth, easy as 1-2-3, and summer in December.

Alcohol loosens both inhibitions and tongues. Pay attention at that New Year’s party this weekend and send the gems to overheardindc (at) gmail (dot) com.
