FRIDAY:

>> Nothing wrong with another strong all-local lineup: Washington Social Club, These United States and Let’s French will be on Black Cat’s mainstage. DCist has interviewed two of these bands before, and we’re set to get up close and personal with the third. So check ’em out. 9:30 p.m., $10.

>> We’re definitely impressed with the speed at which DC Rollergirls have gotten their act together since hosting a series of recruitment happy hour/arm wrestling contests over the last year: They’ve now got seven scheduled bouts for the 2007 season up on their web site, which seems like just enough to foster a healthy, obsessive fan base. So stop by their one year Birthday party at Rock and Roll Hotel, which has an 80s prom theme. $12 advance, $15 at the door, with $2 PBRs all night. 7 p.m.

SATURDAY:

>> Show your support for Mt. Pleasant/Columbia Heights’ own Radio CPR, definitively the only edgy spot currently on the District’s FM dial. CPR DJs are hosting benefit dance party and promising to “transport you back to last summer” at 1118 Girard St. NW (we can only assume this is a private home, so be respectful). But considering the eclectic mix of Bhangra, Reggaeton, Pop and Booty Bass you’re likely to hear, sounds like it could be so hot it’ll be more like the summer before last. These folks are so modest they’re only charging $4 to enter, which includes complimentary tropical juice drinks all night. We’d be willing to pay more.

>> It’s your last chance to catch Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? this weekend, starring Kathleen Turner and Bill Irwin. Here’s what our critic had to say: “The Kennedy Center’s current production has more than just Albee’s words to recommend it. … Whether the central duo’s antics manage to shock or sadden, drain or delight, it won’t be easy to leave them behind at the theater.” 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., also Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

>> We told you all about the Counter Culture Festival happening at Dr. Dremo’s already, but if you missed it, follow the link.

>> There’s another benefit for Callum Robbins scheduled at 443 Eye Street NW, aka The Hosiery, to celebrate little Cal’s first birthday. With Brandon Butler, Owls & Crows and New York’s Beat the Devil. $10 suggested donation. 9 p.m.

SUNDAY:

>> Veteran Iranian theater director Ali Rafiee’s first film is a sort of political Big Night: Political prisoner Aziz (Reza Kianian) finally returns home to find his ex-lover and her daughters running a restaurant out of his abandoned home. Aziz would rather have some place of his own to live, but the women don’t find it too difficult to get to his heart through his stomach. Part of the Freer’s Iranian Film Festival 2007. 2 p.m. in the Meyer Auditorium.

>> Hardcore animation fans won’t want to miss the D.C. stop of the Animation Show at GW’s Lisner Auditorium. And for only $11, you don’t even have to be all that hardcore of a fan to consider going. 7 p.m. Tickets online here.
