Two men were wounded in a drive-by shooting on Euclid near 17th Street NW in Adams Morgan on Saturday afternoon, but both have now been released from the hospital. Neighborhood resident Sebastian Renaud, who was walking with his girlfriend, was shot below the armpit, while John Brown, who lives on 18th Street SE, was shot in the left big toe and was walking with another man who may have been the intended target. Councilmember Jim Graham (D- Ward 1) has been sending regular updates to concerned residents on the Adams Morgan listserve.
The car–a dark Honda–continued on and crashed in the 2500 block of Ontario. MPD has the car, and there were shell casings in the car.
In addition, the latest report I have from the MPD Commander is that the film in the camera at 17th and Euclid has been downloaded. I am told it will be reviewed shortly.
The Washington Post ran a story on Sunday, and has a follow-up in the Metro section this morning concerning the shooting.
It’s good that no one was badly injured in the shooting, but the whole story strikes us as a bit bizarre. A 3 p.m. shooting on a relatively calm residential street (despite a reported uptick in minor crimes like car break-ins on the block) so close to bustling 18th St. and Columbia Rd. is undeniably odd. Any DCist readers see or hear anything more about it? We’re especially curious — as is Councilmember Graham, no doubt — to see if the crime camera at the intersection yields any useful information.
