>> The DC Independent Film Festival (DCIFF) opens tonight with a special tribute to Academy Award winning Executive Producer John Daly (Terminator, Platoon), and DCist will be there. Daly will be presented a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the film industry. Having trouble choosing between which of the 139 films being offered this year? DCist will have a slew of reviews over the course of the festival. We’re especially excited about DCIFF’s move to hold the entire festival in one, metro-accessible venue: The UDC campus. Check out the festival schedule, which kicks off tomorrow, and check back in with DCist for more details on what to see.
>> Local “cutting edge” author Laura Sessions Stepp has somehow gotten a favorable review in the New York Times. We should have written a book about kids these days and their wacky sex years ago! [Why.I.Hate.DC]
>> The Sports Bog as we know it is going on hiatus for a while. But fear not, it’s for a good reason! Bogger Dan Steinberg and his wife welcomed their daughter Ida Sophia Steinberg into the world this morning sometime around 3 a.m. While Dan is away caring for his little one, the Bog will be helmed by the WaPo’s college basketball staff and they’ll do everything they can to prepare you for the Madness that is March.
>> Did you know D.C. has its own Fashion Week? Local fashionistas can check out Betsy Johnson’s collection tonight at 11 p.m.
>> Remember “House Party” and its stirring sequel? Of course you do! Starting tonight you can recapture those halcyon days of the flat-top and rappers without rap sheets. Catch former Kid ‘n Play star Chris Reid’s stand up at HR-57’s new upstairs neighbor, Riot Act Comedy Club. [Yeas & Nays]
