No offense to Mary Steingesser, the artist who attempted to capture the spirit of the District of Columbia for our official 2007 “State Easter Egg” this year. It’s a perfectly lovely rendering of the White House on an egg, we suppose. But we just wouldn’t be us if we didn’t take a moment to point out that a) Using the White House as the symbol for D.C. is so 2004 (2005’s egg was the Washington Monument, and 2006’s was the Tidal Basin surrounded by cherry blossoms), and of course b) if we’re good enough to get an Official Easter Egg normally reserved by the United States Constitution for “the several states,” then it’s high time we got some voting rights in Congress, too.

Back to egg artistry, we couldn’t help but check out what a few of the “states” got, and man, take a look at Arizona and New Mexico. Dioramas. Made out of eggs! Color us amazed. Note to the artist who tackles the District for next year — how about a little bald Fenty inside his “bullpen”? Or a chili halfsmoke being digested inside someone’s stomach? Think outside the egg.

With that, we’ll wish all our readers who are down with J.C. a happy Easter, all our Chosen Readers a happy belated Passover, and all the rest of you a safe, cozy weekend barricaded inside your homes wondering what we did to deserve this ridiculous snow storm.
