D.C. United hope to pick up their first win of the season when they square off against the Kansas City Wizards tomorrow night at RFK. United started off their season with a loss in Colorado last weekend and after several weeks on the road are eager to return to the friendly confines of their home field.

United comes into MLS play with high expectations, bringing back last year’s MVP, Goalkeeper of the Year, and Defender of the Year in Christian Gomez, Troy Perkins, and Bobby Boswell, respectively. They have arguably the most potent attack in the league with newcomers Luciano Emilio and Fred joining Gomez and Jaime Moreno (second all-time in MLS goals scored). Their midfield includes three players who have trained with the U.S. Men’s National Team, and their starting defense is solid.

United will need to bring this talent together tomorrow night after putting together an unfocused effort last weekend. Kansas City may just be the team to put them on the right track. United swept their 4 games with the Wizards last year by a total score of 9-4.

Opening kick is at 7:30 p.m., but there will be an extended team-wide introduction beforehand with scheduled appearances by Mayor Adrian Fenty and United’s new owners. Also making it’s RFK debut will be the new MLS theme music (played while the teams enter the field in parallel lines), which sounds like a mashup of Pomp & Circumstance and the Legend of Zelda theme.

If you’re planning on going, we advise you to buy a ticket in advance, as ticket sales are approaching 19,000 and United officials are expected more than 22,000 seats to be filled.
