Yesterday several thousand hearty Washingtonians, DCist included, went to the Hill to demand equal voting rights. While the shortened rally was in and of itself a success, good times were also to be had at a post-march reception hosted by Sen. Joe Lieberman at the Dirksen Senate Office Building. There, a few intrepid DCists even got to chat with Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (pictured above with, from left to right, Sommer Mathis, Martin Austermuhle and Lindsay Gibson). We’ll have more roundups of all the voting rights action later today.

Details Emerge in Virginia Tech Tragedy: Throughout Monday much of Washington and the nation was following the horrible events in Blacksburg, Va. Many students recorded their experiences online, with digital video cameras and on mobile phones. The shootings have spurred a multitude of questions about delays in notifying student of danger. The over 14,000 students who commute to the campus did not receive information about the initial shootings. Several victims, including two faculty members, have been identified by authorities. More names are sure to surface throughout the day. University President Charles Steger said the shooter was a student at the school. Two 9mm guns, with the serial numbers filed off were found at the scene. Campus police received several bomb threats over the week, but aren’t sure if the incidents are related. Only a dozen people remain in the hospital this morning, all in stable condition or better. Last night local students responded with a vigil for the victims.
