We’re gobsmacked that we forgot to mention Tim “Make it Work” Gunn’s planned whirlwind visit to the District this weekend. A native of Washington, he’s a veteran of Corcoran College of Art + Design and hit the big time as a mentor to aspiring designers on Bravo’s oddly addictive Project Runway. Along with co-author Kate Moloney, Gunn comes to town promoting his new fashion manifesto, Tim Gunn: A Guide to Quality, Taste, and Style.
Gunn and Moloney’s first stop is Olsson’s Books in Penn Quarter on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. for a reading and discussion. Then, on Saturday, Lambda Rising Bookstore says he’ll be stopping by their Dupont location “sometime between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.”. After that, it’s up Connecticut Ave. to Politics and Prose at 3 p.m. for a reading followed by a question and answer session.
Can Gunn’s shrewd eye save Washington from the springtime wardrobe doldrums? Maybe a full-scale intervention is needed to rein in the epidemic of conservative suits and drab ties among Beltway insiders. Even if such lofty goals can’t be accomplished in one weekend, we’ve still got plenty of burning questions for the fashion maven. How did fan-favorite Michael Knight go so horribly wrong at fashion week? Are Project Runway‘s designers getting too big for their britches? What’s his favorite D.C. source for style? If we see him around town, we’ll be sure to ask him.
