Ninety-six degress, Washington. That’s what weather.com is predicting for today’s high. That should put the heat index safely into the hundred range, and the city as a whole into the “justified complaining” range. And it’s what made this photo from phillefan_99 catch our attention. It’s hard to look at it and not think wistfully of summer days at Cameron Run, rubbing our backs raw on the waterslides and bobbing in the suspiciously salty wave pool. Maybe we’ll duck out of work once the heat advisory officially starts (yes, there’s one in effect).
Md. Auto Theft Ring Busted: The Post reports that fourteen people have been arrested in conjunction with a a series of car thefts in Maryland. The individuals operated as an “informal network of associates” (to use WJLA‘s parlance) and used false documentation to obtain titles for stolen vehicles. One suspected participant was murdered during the course of the investigation.

But today there’s at least a footnote to offer: WTOP has got the 911 tapes from the crash. If you’re feeling morbidly curious, help yourself.
Briefly Noted: Arlington bus gutted by fire… Md. energy assistance program expanded… Spanish-speaking inmate held too long in Prince William jail… Frederick Douglass Bridge to undergo renovations… Former robbery investigator arrested in connection to robbery…
