
Good morning, Washington. It’s almost October, but in many ways it still seems like summer. For one thing, it’ll be ninety degrees today. For another, there’s news of Michael Vick’s worsening legal situation. Yesterday Virginia indicted him and three others on dogfighting charges. Of course, we all knew that was coming sooner or later — less expected was word that a Canadian bank is suing Vick for defaulting on a $2.3 million loan.
Potential Fare Hike Gets Smaller: Good news from Metro chief John Catoe: the Post says that he’s revising downward his proposed increase in subway, bus and parking fees. The increase in minimum subway fare would now range between 20 and 40 cents, depending on when it goes into effect. Catoe’s earlier proposal would have raised that number by 45 cents.
Radio One To Return To D.C.?: Via NBC4, the AP reports that the largest urban radio group in the country may be moving back to the District. Radio One, which owns seventy stations, moved to Lanham, Md. a decade ago. Now they’re eyeing a spot by the Shaw Metro — but are expecting the D.C. government to provide some financing for the move.
Grave Robbers In Charles County: Alright, that’s a bit sensationalistic — gravesite robbers is more like it. WTTG reports that a cemetary in Charles County suffered a robbery over the weekend. Over 100 bronze vases were severed from the chains that attached them to grave markers. Authorities think that the objects were stolen for their value as scrap metal.
