
Happy Tuesday, Washington. The news broke early this morning that Judge Roy Pearson will reportedly lose his job, according to sources cited by the Post. Pearson, who infamously sued the owners of Custom Cleaners first for $65 million and then later for $54 million for misplacing a pair of his pants, is a District administrative law judge who has continued to draw a paycheck despite being taken off of his case work since the scandal broke. The panel reportedly voted yesterday against reappointing Pearson, though they have yet to send him a formal letter or announce their decision publicly.
Hospital Vote Today: The D.C. Council is finally set to vote today on a deal that should enable Specialty Hospitals of America to buy the beleaugured Greater Southeast Community Hospital from Envision Hospital Corp. Under the deal, the District would give Specialty $30 million in grant money for renovations and new equipment and $49 million as a loan help ease financing and credit. Greater Southeast is currently in danger of losing its accreditation due to concerns about patient safety and standard of care.
Staph Infection Closes Charter School: A D.C. charter school in Southeast has been closed due to an outbreak of staph infection. ABC7 reports that one female student at the SEED public charter school in Southeast is being treated for symptoms of a staph infection, and the campus will now be closed for two days for cleaning. The closure is only the latest case of drug resistant staph infections in schools that have been reported throughout the region and now, across the country.
