Now that it’s getting darker earlier, bicyclists in the city need to be more careful about riding at night. But if you’re like me, you’ve been putting off buying a safety light for oh, forever. So I’m planning on being first in line this Friday, November 2 at the Suntrust Plaza in Adams Morgan to snag free front and rear bike lights courtesy the Washington Area Bicyclist Association and DDOT.

All you have to do is show up from 5 to 7 p.m. at the corner of 18th St. and Columbia Rd. NW, or the following Friday, November 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Shrine of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 3211 Pine St. NW, to get your own set of limited, free safety lights (they say they’re giving away about 200 sets).

The giveaway is especially targeting D.C.’s bicycle-loving Latino community. Copies of WABA’s Safe Bicycling in the Washington Area guide, in both English and Spanish, will be on hand. It’s also timed to coincide with the end of daylight saving time, which is ending a week later for the first time this year, on Sunday, November 4, 2007.
