Vincent Orange, fighting Kwame Brown for Gray’s seat, went with a smaller Cadillac SUV than his competitor. What, he couldn’t afford an orange paint job?

DC for Marriage, an eight-month-old group advocating same-sex marriage rights in the District, will hold a “Marriage Equality Community Forum” tomorrow night at 7 p.m. in room 412 of the Wilson Building. This is the group’s first public event, which is co-sponsored by several local LGBT organizations including the DC Center, DC Black Pride, AQUA DC, and the Sexual Minority Youth Assistance League, among others. Yesterday, DC for Marriage announced Sabrina Sojourner, the first open lesbian elected to Congress, will moderate the event.

The group outlined its participant goals for the meeting on its website. Among them, participants should understand the current rights and responsibilities under D.C.’s domestic partnership laws; understand the current legislation and what needs to happen before full marriage equality is passed; and discuss strategies to achieve marriage rights in D.C. A discussion of pending legislation that would expand D.C.’s domestic partnership laws is also on the agenda.

The Washington Blade reports that the majority of the D.C. Council’s 13 members would vote in favor of a same-sex marriage bill and that Mayor Fenty would sign it. Based on a questionnaire from the Gay and Lesbian Activists Alliance, DC for Marriage states that council members Carol Schwartz (R, At-Large) and Yvette Alexander (D, Ward 7) believe domestic partnership laws are sufficient; Marion Barry (D, Ward 8) didn’t answer the questionnaire, although he “joined unanimous City Council votes in favor of domestic partnership legislation.”
