Good morning, Washington. It’s going to be a mild, albeit cloudy end to the holiday weekend. Enjoy the gentle weather while it lasts — Tuesday will usher in rain, and once it departs temperatures will drop a good 10 degrees, reminding us that winter is just a few short weeks away.
>> The Washington Post looks at the very calculated effort the Metropolitan Police Department is making to stay out of the Occupy D.C. story: “What keeps police chiefs up at night is that somehow the purpose of the movement will become about actions that the police have taken,” said Chuck Wexler, executive director of the Police Executive Research Forum, a D.C.-based law enforcement think tank.
>> After 45 years, the Safeway at the Watergate Complex will close at 6 p.m. on Dec. 3, despite residents’ pleas to keep the location open. It is seen as the latest sign of the Watergate’s slow death.

>> Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) is gearing up to push his legislative agenda, said to be the most ambitious since he took office in 2007. Among his priorities are legalizing same-sex marriage, jump-starting Maryland’s wind-power industry, limiting the use of septic systems, and introducing — and passing — a redistricting plan for the state. Riding on all this is his potential for a future beyond Maryland.
>> Police are asking the public for help in finding 73-year-old Nelson Arthur Smith of Silver Spring. Smith has been missing since 11:30 a.m. Friday. He was last known to be on his way from Silver Spring to Millersville, Md. to visit a relative, but he never arrived. Smith has white hair, blue eyes, is about 5 foot 10 inches and weighs 225 pounds. He drives a blue 2008 Dodge Caliber with Maryland license plates MLM345. It’s believed he has a tan female Labrador mutt with him. A Silver Alert has been issued for Smith, who has cognitive disabilities.
>> Nine people were injured Saturday when a car hit a B2 bus in Southeast that was headed to Anacostia. The accident occurred on 18th Street and Independence Avenue around 6 p.m. Nine injured passengers were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and four of them were children. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
