As candidates vie to join or stay on the D.C. Council, financial contributions are ramping up more for some than others.

Since announcing his bid for Ward 7 councilmember, Vincent Gray raised triple the amount of campaign dollars—over the course of a month—than the incumbent, Yvette Alexander. According to his latest fundraising report, Gray banked more than $77,000 from more than 300 donors between February 1 – March 10. Councilmember Yvette Alexander raised nearly $20,000 during that time period, according to her report.

Gray currently has more than $70,000 on hand, while Alexander is trailing behind with about $50,000.

The former mayor kicked off his comeback candidacy last week among a sizable crowd in Northeast. “People are supporting our campaign because they know there is work to be done and they want to help get things moving,” said Gray in a release touting his fundraising. “We’re just getting started. Every day our campaign grows stronger.”

Alexander responded by touting her higher total haul over the course of the campaign.

In neighboring Ward 8, Councilmember LaRuby May dominates fundraising after taking in just over $92,000 in the past month, bringing her to more than $162,000 on hand. Trayon White, who announced a rematch with the Ward 8 councilmember last month, raised nearly $12,000 this cycle, with almost $11,000 on hand.

White lost to Councilmember May in an incredibly close special election in 2015 by fewer than 100 votes.

And across town, Ward 4 Councilmember Brandon Todd raised nearly $60,000, according to his report, with $228,000 on hand. His rival, Leon Andrews, raised more than $156,00 (he lent himself $140,000 of that) and has more than $131,000 on hand.

The District’s primary is June 14.
